 Dr. Jonathan CitowDr. JONATHAN CITOW graduated from The Johns Hopkins University with honors. He received his training in Neurosurgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center. After achieving the second highest score in the United States on the Neurological Surgery Board Examination, he authored the texts Comprehensive Neurosurgical Board Review; Essential Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology; Neuroradiology and Neuropathology: text and atlas; Neurosurgery Oral Board Review and; Neurosurgical Board Review Questions and Answers for Self-Assessment. Dr. Citow invented the Citow Cervical Visualizer, a spinal device now used world-wide. Dr. Citow has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and sits on the submission review board of the international journal Spinal Cord. He is the chief of Neurosurgery at Condell Medical Center and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of chicago. Dr. Citow is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as well as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
His special interests include complex spinal disorders, fusions, minimally invasive spinal surgery (ie. outpatient micro-diskectomies and hemilaminectomies for stenosis and synovial cysts with METRx™ tubes), hydrocephalus (endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomies), trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari Malformations. Dr. Citow cares for both adult and pediatric neurosurgical patients.
 Dr. Robert Erickson
Dr. Robert Erickson graduated from Northwestern University Medical School with honors. He received his training in Neurosurgery at the University of Chicago where he subsequently joined the faculty as a full time professor. He has been training surgical residents and medical students for the last 19 years. One of his former pupils is Lake County Neurosurgery founder, Dr. Jonathan Citow. Dr. Erickson has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored several book chapters. He is a member of both the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
His special interests include complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery, cerebral aneurysms, brain and spine tumors, Chiari malformations, trigeminal neuralgia, and hydrocephalus. He cares for both adults and pediatric patients.
 Dr. Juan Alzate
Dr. Juan Alzate graduated from the Universidad Del Valle Medical School in Cali, Colombia. He received his training in Neurosurgery both in Colombia and most recently at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, where Juan participated in the successful separation of the Pilipino conjoined twins in 2004 and many other notable cases that appeared in the local news. In addition, Dr. Alzate completed a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City under the instruction of the late Dr. Fred Epstein, world renowned for the treatment of spinal cord tumors. He was also a research scholar at the Free University in Berlin, Germany and at George Washington University in Washington, DC with a focus on endoscopic approaches to the brain and spine.
Dr. Alzate has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored many book chapters and has spoken at numerous conferences both in the US and Colombia. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
His special interests include minimally invasive spine surgery, complex and minimally invasive endoscopic cranial-base surgery (i.e., endoscopic pituitary surgery), and Chiari Malformations. Dr. Alzate is fluent in English and Spanish, and cares for both adult and pediatric neurosurgical patients.
